About Thoddoo Island

Thoddoo is one of the many islands that make up the beautiful isles of Maldives.
Located about 70km from the capital island Male’, it is a separate little oval gem located 20km from the northern edge of the main atoll. It is 2km long and has a population of about 2000. Thoddoo is known for it’s soil and abundance of agriculture and is famous for it’s watermelon harvests, while most of the locals also make a living out of fishing.

Known for it’s sunny and warm weather and its outstandingly white beaches, the crystal clear blue waters are truly a sight for your sore eyes, which surround the island all around. You can bring your own snorkeling gear or borrow some at Athiriveli guest house and go for a quick dip at the house reef where you will meet hundreds of local resident fishes, rays, octopuses or even some friendly turtles if you’re lucky!

Even though it is a small island, you will most likely not run out of things to do here. Walk along the picturesquely green plantations of watermelons, papaya, banana, rows and rows of coconut palms towering over your heads everywhere you go and the different kinds of leafy greens, cucumbers, pumpkins and enormous breadfruit trees.

Quench your thirst with a coconut down by the harbor or at Athiriveli guest house just for a dollar each. Rent a bicycle for 5 dollars a day and ride around to explore the streets, the mosques, local shops and school or just walk barefoot by the Bikini Beach and have a rest on of the many hammocks and beach beds provided for you, under the swaying palm leaves and the soothing sounds of waves crashing right beneath your feet.

Thoddoo maybe small but the hearts of the people that inhibit it are otherwise. The locals are kind and friendly with their welcoming smiles and enthusiastic hellos. The people are energetic and are always up to something like the kids who play football every evening at the pitch or compete against each other at a friendly game of volleyball. You’re more than welcome to join in.

The island with it’s rich history, beautiful people and lush vegetation is a unique place to help you forget about your worries and even what day of the week it is!
